Hand Painted Crosses

November 20th, 2009 :: 2:21 pm

Today was the first day since my son Sloan was born on July 7/09 that I took some time to do a “craft” that i had been putting off. My sister and brother in law, Robyn and John had brought these fun crosses back from a trip of theirs to Texas and had gave them to me, knowing how I love to make and create more “things”! Everyday I went into my office I thought of what I was going to do with these crosses and today my husband Craig, who works away most of the time was around and could watch Sloan while I focused on my newest of many projects. It seemed to take about half the day to do both because of paint drying time, but really was very simple.

I started with the 4 different shape/ size crosses and did my base color coat on each of the bigger crosses, then painted on the zebra and leopard design.

Knowing me, the more fun and unique the pattern, the more Rayel it is! After that I took the smaller crosses and did a quick paint job and stuck crinkled tissue paper to the paint to give a textured look. I then painted 2 small blocks of the same small cross color and stuck the small cross to the big cross with the blocks to give it a raised look when hanging on the wall! It was very simple and a fun project to do as a gift or for yourself!

I have always had little projects on the go whether it be sewing blankets, painting, building something or “antiquing” garage sale wood furniture I find. I just love all the treasures I can find at little antique shops or at garage sales and I am a prime example or one persons junk is my treasure! With Craig working away so much it has always helped me pass time to have a project on the go always so I don’t have too much spare time.

I am very excited to be back into the groove of my “projects”, right in time for the Christmas season and I look forward to the many things I can make to add to my Christmas decor!

Now for a “empty/ spare” wall to put my new decor…

    Thanks, I honestly cant take credit for the idea! Robyn had actually bought the wooden crosses for me and shown me some fun ideas as to what to do with them… so all I had to do was create how I wanted them to look!
