“I’m not sure how my family would get through a meal if we weren’t discussing Agriculture.”
From the time I was growing up south of Calgary on the Highwood River to our home now in Breton, Alberta, Agriculture has been a part of my life. My parents started with a commercial herd of Hereford cross cows and in the early 1970′s began the start of their purebred Simmental herd. I married my husband Rob 25 years ago and we have continued to raise Purebred Simmentals. Our daughters Crystal and Stacy play a huge part in our High Country Cattle (www.highcountrycattle.com) operation even through they are not at the farm daily. I grew up with the philosophy that everyone needs to give back as much as they take. There in lies the concept of Volunteering. My dad is probably on of the biggest volunteers I know. Working with the Calgary Stampede, 4-H and Alberta Beef Producers. I have enjoyed time with 4H, 2 local Agriculture Societies and the Young Canadian Simmental program. For the past 14 years I have worked for our local municipality in Community Services. Agriculture will always be my first love, but working off farm is a reality of the times. I know that my responsibility in being a producer is to convey to the consumer the quality of Canadian Food and give them a connection to the rural lifestyle.
Cheers,
Dee
